What is Business Analysis?

Fundamentally, Business Analysis is the function of understanding the need for change. Whether that is driven by a Marketing Manager wanting to launch a new product, or responding to technical or legislative change: business analysis looks at identifying the scope and nature of the change required capturing the change so that designers can suggest potential solutions and work to implement a solution.
This analysis is often presented in a document called a Business Requirements Document (BRD) and processes are often analysed in a two stage approach: documenting the “As Is” ie the current way of doing things, and then working with key stakeholders to design a “To Be” ie the future state process.
